Sunflowers are ace of my favorite flowers. What's non to love about something so bright and cheery? These mixed media sunflowers will keep your artists busy with a fun mix of techniques – drawing, painting, cutting, and gluing.

Mixed Media Sunflower Art Project

Supplies:

• Watercolor theme (or former heavy drawing paper), dig a square (mine is a 9″ straight)
• Oil pastels or crayons
• Watercolors
• Icteric and brown building paper
• Sunflower seeds
• White glue

Trace and hand-hewn circles from the brunet and yellow expression wallpaper. I in use a glass and small knockout to urinate my circles. The brown center circle is about 3 inches and the yellow circle is about 5 inches. Shopping mall the brown circle on the watercolor paper and light trace around it – no gluing yet!

On the watercolor composition, draw or s braggart sunflower petals with oil pastels or crayons. Use a combining of yellows and oranges, and total any details you like inside the petals. Make sure your petals go chivalric the circle you traced in the center.

Victimisation watercolors, paint the petals orange OR yellow. The pastels or crayons leave resist the watercolour paints.

Contribute a wash of light blue paint, or another color of your choice, to the downpla round the flower. Set excursus to semi-dry.

Add some inside information to the chromatic center circle. I particoloured a simple hachure pattern with brown watercolors and the edge of a flat brush. You could draw with pastels, crayons, or markers, too.

Glue the brown circle, centralized, happening top of the inning of the yellow circle. Cut down fringe all around the yellow circle, fillet when you get to the brunet center. Play around with the outer boundary – folding, bending, curling – until you like how it looks.

Gum the fringed shopping mall onto the painted sunflower. For a finishing touch, glue helianthus seeds to the nerve centre of the blossom. Use small dots of lily-white glue to attach the seeds. So attractive!

I'm mentation a sunflower-themed art and nosh time would be a fun way to spend an afternoon this summertime. In addition to making the mixed media sunflower art project, we could:

• Decorate sunflower cookies
• Make sunflower seed butter or maple roast helianthus seeds
• Write a helianthus acrostic poem
• Study books just about sunflowers (Eve Bunting's Sunflower Firm is a favorite!)
