How To Clean Dash And Albert Indoor Outdoor Rug

This post is sponsored by Annie Selke Company.

For the photoshoot back in February, the stylist ordered a couple rugs for my kitchen and dining room. I had been contemplating for a while adding a runner in the kitchen, but I hadn't even considered a rug for our dining room because  I knew what a hassle it could be to clean! But I figured this could be a sort of "test run" to see how I would like a rug in there.

I was beyond impressed with these indoor/outdoor rugs from Dash and Albert by Annie Selke. As I alluded to, I was skeptical at first because of how light colored they were and I was worried about their stain-ability. But after a week with them in place I was sold. Any spot or stain that occurred from dirt or food simply wiped clean with a damp rag!  I had never beheld such sorcery from a rug. We have had them for almost 2 months now and I'm still impressed!

Because my kitchen is on the smaller side, I cut the runner (which is normally 8 feet long) down to fit perfectly in my space. I folded over the cut edge and used some upholstery thread to sew that side down so it wouldn't unravel.

I also used some carpet tape to secure the corners and middle so that it doesn't shift when we walk over it. I would highly recommend carpet tape when using flat-weave rugs over a hard surface… the shifting will drive you nuts if you don't!

This is the Rugby Stripe Light Blue Indoor/Outdoor Runner Rug.

It looks like it was 'meant to be' doesn't it? The colors and pattern are so up my alley.

I wanted to do a little experiment…. I wanted to show you all how easy these rugs are to clean and despite their light color, every food stain you can imagine comes out!

So I started with a few things that are known to wreak havoc on light colored rugs and are likely to get spilled under a dining room table: Spaghetti sauce, chocolate sauce, and mushed up strawberries (raspberries had the same result).

Here's a little video I did showing how I cleaned each one. I have to admit I was a little worried that spaghetti stain wouldn't come out very easily, since it wouldn't budge with water like the other two did. But alas… I referred to Dash & Albert's cleaning guide on their website and was pleased to find out bleach is recommended for difficult stains (as long as you rinse it out well)!

Now check out how perfectly clean it is after it was completely dry!

This one is the C3 Herringbone Linen Indoor/Outdoor Rug.

A little before and after action…

The warmth and subtle texture they add are so perfect and it's especially nice when we have guests sleeping downstairs– much quieter when those chairs are moved around in the morning! 😉

What do you think? Do you like flat-weave rugs for inside your home? Are you familiar with Dash & Albert's Indoor/Outdoor collection?
